NPC needs you: influence our theory of change support

Kathryn Dingle

We are interested in exploring how a theory of change can support learning and adapting within organisations. Learning and adapting isn’t easy. What if there was a digital product and/or community to help people use a ToC to learn and adapt throughout their organisation? We’re doing some user research to understand the key opportunities and challenges facing the sector around measuring how you make a difference and using of the Theory of Change to support learning. This research will help guide our decision making on new digital products, tools or services. Can you help? We are looking to interview people… Read more “NPC needs you: influence our theory of change support”

Usability testing – onboarding for our app

Kathryn Dingle

In November 2020 we ran a series of usability tests with young people. We wanted to explore two different routes to onboarding of our app. We were interested in testing which of two different options young people preferred to get to know young people’s needs. Our aims: To understand how we can help young people find the support and opportunities that they need. To understand how we can present these to young people. The prototypes we have tested: Quiz style: an interactive quiz that gets to know young people’s needs and interests (like Pinterest or Headspace) Filtering: similar to exosting… Read more “Usability testing – onboarding for our app”

Torchbox event: How to perfect remote user research

Kathryn Dingle

I was lucky enough to attend a free virtual event on called How to perfect remote user testing, hosted by Torchbox. The hosts Olly Willans and Luiza Frederico ran a Q&A style event. Below is a video and some of the highlights, insights and resources from this event. The event covered: How user research fits into the design process How to carry out key activities remotely: user interviews, user testing, user co-creation How to manage and communicate insights effectively Product management: how to make the right decisions Why do user research?  Olly started highlighting the importance of user research. He… Read more “Torchbox event: How to perfect remote user research”

Human Centred Design PART 2: Event Write-Up

Kathryn Dingle

We have attended a Human Centred Design workshop series run by Third Sector Lab and Jess Gildener. Learning from the first part is summarised here. This blog will cover the second workshop which focused on Human Centred Design: Tools for Ideating, Prototyping and Testing. Below are the highlights from this event and links to key resources! Jess covered a range of tools, including brainwriting, LEGO prototypes, storyboards and using PowerPoint for fast digital prototypes. I will explain more below! Jess’s favoured user design process is more like a Double Diamond process. The first workshop focused on ‘Discover’ and ‘Define,’ whilst… Read more “Human Centred Design PART 2: Event Write-Up”

Finding a locality for our next phase

Kathryn Dingle

My Best Life (MBL) is NPC’s collaborative project exploring tech solutions to the challenges young people face today. Based on what we’ve learned so far, we believe the first and most important challenge to pursue is in helping young people find the services and opportunities that are suited to them, based on their needs and interests, at the times when they need it most, and in ways that give them the control over what and how they choose to engage with services. To do so will involve mapping and codifying services and opportunities in new ways, which will help to… Read more “Finding a locality for our next phase”

Our approach for bringing in the right digital partner

Kathryn Dingle

The My Best Life team are in the middle of our tendering process to bring in a new digital agency to design and build a proof of concept for our service recommender. We wanted to share a little about our process for bringing in a digital agency. As always we are following Cast’s 10 digital design principles. The third principle is ‘build the right team,’ so we wanted to share how we are doing this to bring in a digital agency. Below I will outline our thought process and criteria for bringing the right agency into the project. What are… Read more “Our approach for bringing in the right digital partner”

We need a new digital partner!

Kathryn Dingle

My Best Life (MBL) is NPC’s collaborative project exploring tech solutions to the challenges young people face today. In 2019, My Best Life involved exploring early ideas and designing solutions that might enable young people to better access support. To tackle the challenge we brought onboard partners – Leap Confronting Conflict, UK Youth, The Mix, and Founders & Coders – to pool expertise in working with young people, creating digital services, and co-design. But most importantly, young people were and continue to be at the heart of the process and involved in key decisions. We explored the challenges of how… Read more “We need a new digital partner!”

User insights from phase 2

Kathryn Dingle

We started the current phase of My Best Life, thinking about the issue of young people not being able to access the support and opportunities they need to succeed.  By working young people in a focus group and during our remote design sprints, we have explored how we might make it easier for young people to find and access services.  How did young people engage with the problems? When exploring the ideas of making services easier to find online and making more services available to young people, the young people kept circling back to the issue of not being able… Read more “User insights from phase 2”

How young people access services

Kathryn Dingle

We started the current phase of My Best Life, thinking about the issue of young people not being able to access the support and opportunities they need to succeed and technology can help improve this. Online connectivity is a huge part of our lives, especially during the lockdown. We have the answers to most questions at our fingertips, but many young people struggle to get the support they need. We are interested in exploring how we might make it easier for young people to find and access services.  By working young people in focus groups and during our remote design… Read more “How young people access services”
